HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Ardfert guided walking tours will continue on Thursdays, 12th, 19th & 26th July & 2nd & 9th August from 8pm and will last approx. 1 hour. The first tour open to the public took place on Thursday 5th July & the meeting point for future tours is Ardfert church at 8pm. There is no fee to take part in the tours & all are welcome to join in. For people interested in joining Ardfert Historical Society there is a nominal fee of €10, which can be dropped into Steve at Ardfert Printing in the village. The June meeting of the society took place recently at Cuil Mhuire & once again a variety of topics were discussed, including graveyards, sea level setting, old historic photograph­s, taking the beet to Tubrid Station & the beginnings of Macra Na Feirme in Ardfert.

If anybody has any interestin­g old photograph­s / informatio­n that might be of historical interest, they can be dropped to Steve Baker at Ardfert Printing where they can be scanned & returned to their owners.

GRAVEYARD MASS

Friday 13 July commencing with Blessing of Graves at 7 pm in the Abbey (New) Cemetery and at 7.30 pm in the Cathedral Graveyard. Mass will be celebrated in the church grounds at 8 pm. Please use this opportunit­y to tidy up family graves.

ST. BRENDAN’S AC

St Brendan’s AC was saddened by the passing of Seán Spaight last week. Seán had been a founder member of Ardfert AC in 1970 and competed for the club as an athlete and was secretary from 1974 to 1978. He was a supporter of St Brendan’s AC from its foundation in 1987 & was a past pupil of Tubrid NS. The club offers its sympathy to his sister Kathleen and to all his relatives and friends.

St Brendan’s AC members were involved in the Sea to Summit and the King of the Beach runs in Ballyheigu­e last week as well as in the Tralee Parkruns on Saturday and Sunday as well as in other events in a variety of places.

Training for adults continues on Tuesdays at 8pm in different locations. Check with club secretary Irene on 087 7985557 for details.

The annual Banna Run will be held on August 5th and a big entry is expected again. See St Brendan’s AC Kerry/Facebook and blogspot for details.
