Ministerial assistant Mike Foley is new Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal Area

-

A MAN long steeped in the politics of the Fine Gael party and the nation takes up the chain of office in the Listowel Municipal Area less than a year after his election to the Council.

Ballylongford native Mike Foley was elected Cathaoirleach of the municipality on Friday, with party colleague Mike Kennelly elected vicechair.

It comes as a proud moment for the ‘Bally’ man in an albeit tumultuous period for his home place over the latest blow to the LNG hopes.

Prioritising the future development of the Landbank is one of his primary objectives coming into the role and he will be bringing his years of experience at the highest levels of politics in the country to bear on the work from the get-go.

Cllr Foley spent nine years as parliamentary and ministerial assistant to former Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan and currently works as ministerial assistant to Brendan Griffin.

He is also now working on the development of a major national trail project called The

Slí he believes will have serious economic impact for North Kerry once it lands along the coast. And he is also pushing for a scheme to bring vacant homes back into use to alleviate the housing crisis here and improve the lot of North Kerry.
