The Opening of the church means the implementation of health and safety measures, in keeping with all guidelines from the Public Health Authorities. Hand Sanitizer is provided at the entrance to the Church and people are advised to use same. The Aghavallin Cemetery Committee wishes to thank everybody that took part in the recent Cemetery clean up, which took place over the past number of weeks. Indeed the amount of work done by the volunteers was amazing and their efforts has not gone unnoticed as the Cemetery is looking splendid and the hard work done in restoring its splendour is very much appreciated. However to maintain this splendour and to add more beauty to the Cemetery the committee are rather stretched for funds and would be grateful for any financial assistance or donations which in turn would be put towards its upkeep. Donations can be given to either Michael Foley at 087 9687078 or Caroline O’Connor at 087 9107553. Thank you.

BEREAVEMENT

Unfortunately over the last ten weeks the Parish has been shocked, stunned and saddened with the number of residents from the community that have passed from our midst’s, all of whom are dearly missed. In the last fortnight, we were unfortunate to see the passing of Thomas Dee R.I.P. of Well Street, who died unexpectedly on Saturday June 20th at Beechwood Nursing Home in Newcastlewest.

Thomas had been born and raised in the community just 89years ago, he attended the local national school, and like so many of his age group began his working career after leaving primary school. He spent a number of years working at various places around the parish before spending a number of years at Collins in Well Street. While he did not travel too far to meet the love of his life, their love blossomed from a very young age as he and his close neighbour Rose Young who also worked at Collins’ the loving couple married in 1964 and emigrated to England shortly afterwards in search of a better life.

They settled in York where Thomas became employed with the local authority there. The arrival of sons John and Michael completed the happy family and the yearning to return home became a reality in 1988 when on retiring Thomas and Rose decided to return to Bally they returned to the house that Rose was born and reared in and have enjoyed a wonderful time there since. But alas Thomas’ health took a slight turn very recently and unfortunately he passed from us on the eve of Father’s Day.

Thomas is survived by his heartbroken family of wife Rose sons John and Michael. daughtersinBridgette and Catherine, grandchildren Danielle, Heather and Áine, sisters-in-law, brothersin-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many good friends to whom we extend our deepest sympathies. Thomas’s remains were removed from his residence for a private and family Funeral Mass in St. Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford, on Wednesday 24th June at 1pm which was followed by Cremation in Shannon Crematorium, Shannon, Co. Clare.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date for Thomas in which family and friends can attend.

Then on Tuesday the whole area and neighboring communities was shaken to the very core with the sad and shocking news of the unexpected passing of Michael O’Neill of Ballymackessy R.I.P. Mike as he was more affectionately known was a very highly respected and very popular carpenter by trade whose work and expertise was sought by numerous people all over the County. Born and reared in Pulleen, Tarbert he was the eldest boy in a family of eight (five boys and three girls) of Brendan and Ena. His young life saw him attend Tarbert Primary School before going on to Tarbert Comprehensive School where he excelled in his love of woodwork which in turn would lead him into a wonderful career.

It was at Tarbert Comp that he came across the love of his life Katherina Lynch daughter of Martin and Noreen Ballymackessy who would in years to follow become his beloved wife. Their early life saw them live in Ahanagran as Mike built and completed the family home in Ballymackessy. The arrival of three daughters and a son completed their lovely family. But the sad loss of both his sister Fiona, removed from his residence on Monday, June 29th for 1o’clock Mass at St Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford, followed by interment afterwards at Lislaughtin Abbey.

The popularity of the man was reflected with the large numbers of people who lined the route both on route to the Church and afterwards on route to Lislaughtin Abbey. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Michael’s (Mike’s) life will be celebrated at a later date. Sympathy is extended to Moss Moroney Main Street, Ballylongford and his brother Jimmy Rusheen on the sad passing of their brother Buddy Rest In Peace who died in England recently.

Next week I will continue and write about the passing of Thomas Sheahan R.I.P. Ballyline and also with Michael O’Neill R.I.P.of Limerick and formerly of Ballylongford and also Jimmy (Marcus) Edgeworth R.I.P late of Carrig Island who died recently in England.
