SF councillors march out over flag
SINN Fein councillors walked out in protest from a Kerry County Council meeting on Monday because of a decision not to fly the Palestinian flag at Council Buildings in Tralee.
Councillors Damian Quigg and Toiréasa Ferris left the chamber after failing to win support for Cllr Quigg’s appeal for the council to follow the example of county councils elsewhere in Ireland by flying the Palestinian flag in solidarity.
Cllr Quigg was informed at Monday’s meeting his motion was to be referred to the Corporate Policy Group (CPG) for review. He asked that the council fly the Palestinian flag while the CPG was coming to a decision but this was rejected and both he and Cllr Ferris then left the meeting in protest.
