Injury-time equaliser for Listowel Celtic

THE wind may have been blowing hard and the skies grey but it was raining goals in the KDL on Sunday with 55 goals scored in 13 matches.

Two players scored five goals each while a few hat tricks were thrown in for good measure. Reigning Premier A champions Killarney Athletic opened the season with a testing challenge against Listowel Celtic at Mounthawk Park on Friday night.

The Fealesider­s had held Dingle to a draw the previous week and after a very competitiv­e game Athletic had to settle with a share of the spoils in a close game. Celtic took the lead with an early goal by Ian Murphy but they looked in trouble when they had a player sent off after just 20 minutes.

Athletic then scored twice through Shane Lynch and Mike O’Donoghue and looked to be heading for victory but the game had a dramatic conclusion with Celtic equalising in injury-time with a cracker from Ashley Kelliher.

Dingle Bay Rovers 0 Killarney Celtic 7

THE clash of two of the big guns in this division turned up a sensationa­l result with Killarney Celtic scoring a whopping seven goals against Dingle Bay Rovers. Matt Keane (3), Brendan Falvey, Wayne Sparling, Jamie Spillane (pen) and sub Stephen McCarthy scored for the winners.

Inter Kenmare 0 Tralee Dynamos 9

TRALEE Dynamos hardly moved out of first gear in this game with a facile win over Inter Kenmare, It was the Shane Lowth show by the Tralee side with the striker bagging five goals to cap a tremendous performanc­e while Jonthan Burrows, Simon Lorne, Sean Foley and Klaudia Dema completed the scoring for the winners.

Castleisla­nd 1 Mastergeeh­a 0

CASTLEISLA­ND got their season going in positive fashion with a hard earned win over Mastergeeh­a. The goal that won the match was scored by Sean Og O’Ciardubhai­n who was the man of the match on the day while Danny Feeney missed a penalty for Castleisla­nd late in the game.

DENNY PREMIER B Tralee Celtic 4 Killarney Celtic B 0

NEWLY promoted Tralee Celtic got off to a flying start with an emphatic win over Killarney Celtic. Fielding a very strong side that had the game done and dusted at half time 3-0 up while they could afford to have players of the cailibre of Chris Kerins and John Farragher on the bench. Anthony Murphy scored a brace of goals and Fergal Moynihan and sub Chris Kerins also got on the scoreboard for the winners. Celtic secured Anthony Murphy and James Sugrue from Tralee Dynamos in the transfer window and will be the team to beat in this Division.

Camp United 1 Castleisla­nd B 2

UNDER new management Castleisla­nd put three points on the board after a great win over Camp United. The ageless Pa O’Rourke and Eamon McLoughlin scored for the winners while James Scanlon scored for Camp.
