Dole queues back to pre crash levels

THE number of people signing on in Kerry is at its lowest since before the 2008 economic collapse.

The latest Live Register Figures published by the Central Statistics Office show there were 8,058 people signing on in Kerry in September.

That’s the lowest figure recorded in the county since May 2008, just months before the crash. From June 2008 on live register figures continuous­ly soared upwards month by month, peaking at 17,313 in February 2011.

The September 2017 live register tally represents a drop of 653 on the previous month and a fall of 1,403 on the previous year. All seven social welfare offices in Kerry recorded month on month drops.

There were 317 people signing on Cahersivee­n, a drop of 14. In Dingle there were 371 on the register a fall of 27. The Kenmare register fell by seven to 203.

In Killarney the register fell by 109 to 1,010. the Killorglin Register dipped by 46 to 590. In Listowel the register fell by 161 to stand at 1651.

The biggest drop was seen at the Tralee welfare office – which covers claimants in the Castleisla­nd area – where the register fell by 289 to 3,916.
