Busy day at the post office raises €1,057 for hospice

-

THE Hospice Coffee Morning on September 14 was a busy time in the Ó Lúing family’s kitchen at Ventry Post Office with a steady stream of people dropping in to enjoy the company of friends and neighbours, eat cake and of course drink coffee.

Many people in the parish baked cakes for the occasion, people who didn’t have time to stop for coffee left donations at the counter in the Post Office and one cake – a Victorian Sponge – baked by Neasa Ní Dhufaigh looked so good that it was raffled, rather than eaten on the day. At the end of it all €1,057 was raised for the West Kerry Branch of the Kerry Hospice Foundation and duly presented to branch treasurer Ursula O’Connell this Monday, making a total of €2,735 raised from all the coffee mornings held in West Kerry on September 14.

Money raised for the hospice in West Kerry is used to provide home care and other hospice and palliative care services in the local community, including the hospice room in West Kerry Community Hospital. Any money that remains unspent at the end of the year helps pay for the care provided within the county by the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

Meanwhile, the Hospice committee would like to thank those who attended last Friday night’s concert by the Kilkenny group In Caelo in An Díseart, which raised €600.

The West Kerry Branch of the Kerry Hospice Foundation would welcome volunteers to help with the running of fundraising events. Contact Ursula O’Connor on 087 7450 126.
