Paul Geaney impresses with oval ball in Corca Dhuibhne defeat to Tralee

TRALEE played with the aid of the Ballydavid pitch’s famous hill in the first half and they certainly made the fall of ground count with two tries from the excellent Martin Stack, one of which was converted by Ben O’Neill to take a 12-0 lead in at the half-time break.
The weather conditions were ideal for running rugby and Kerry senior footballer Paul Geaney showed his prowess with the oval ball when he made several darting runs into the heart of the Tralee defence from the full-back position.
Corca Dhuibhne continued to pressurise Tralee in the second period, but despite excellent performances from Geaney, Nathan Flannery and Brian Murphy, all they could manage was an Alan Devine try with 10 minutes left to go in the game.
Tralee’s defence weathered the storm and came away with the points.
Douglas Carrigaline 5 Killorglin 50
KILLORGLIN were very impressive winners away to Douglas Carrigaline last Sunday.
They started with great intensity and Tiarnan Clifford made a massive tackle to push Douglas/Carrigaline deep into their own 22. An effective line out and a great drive from Captain Tony Lynch saw him get over the line for the games first try.
The second try for Killorglin came soon afterwards – full-back Dave Coffey had a good run up the right wing and found the speedy Tiarnan Clifford who crashed over for their second try.
From the restart Killorglin’s Rodi Healy found Neil O’Shea and he touched down the games third try. It wasn’t long before Killorglin got their bonus point try. From a good scrum John Michael Cronin O’Reilly broke through the line and got the ball to Cathal Doyle who drove over Killorglin’s fourth try of the game.
Before half-time Douglas managed to get back a try of their own that they failed to convert.
The second half saw four more tries for Killorglin, three from Cathal Doyle and the last one from Tiarnan Clifford.
Luke O’Shea converted five of the eight tries.
Killarney 0 St Mary’s 28
IT was another tough day for Killarney against a rampant St Mary’s side. Killarney are really struggling this year and badly need a win to boost their confidence.
