Killarney student to take part in All-Ireland poetry competition
St Brendan’s College Killarney student Armandas Vendarazicius is heading to Dublin this Thursday to compete in the ‘Poetry Aloud’ All-Ireland semi-finals at the National Library. Armandas is a sixthyear pupil with a deep love of poetry and is looking forward to Thursday’s event having come through the regional qualification route with a recital of a poem by Patrick Kavanagh. For the semi-final, Armandas must recite a poem by W.B Yeats and also a poem of his own choosing.
“Armandas has a deep interest in poetry and reads poems of all genres, including Shakespeare who he loves. He’s very much looking forward to it,” said Denise Lyons, organiser teacher and coach.
