A PALESTINIAN percussionist, who made a musical connection with touring Irish musicians and dancers in Jerusalem, will take centre stage at a concert in An Diseart on Sunday night.

Raed Said was signed up at short notice by West Kerry-based Martin Schaerer to take the place of musicians who were prevented from travelling to Jerusalem to play at a concert with the ‘Welcoming the Stranger’ project on a Culture Ireland sponsored tour. Raid fitted in straight away and the musical bond turned into a friendship.

Raid studied percussion in Egypt, Jordan and Syria and has performed widely in Europe the US, and Northern Africa. He will be accompanied by Martin Schaerer and Jon Sanders in this weekend’s concert. For drumming enthusiasts he will hold a workshop in The Percussion Workshop on Green Street on Sunday at 2pm. The workshop costs €18 (€15 concession price).

The concert will take place in the Fresco Room of An Diseart on Sunday, November 19 at 8pm. Tickets €10. Contact Martin at 0872808633
