‘3’ upgrade in Kerry is completed

MOBILE PHONE COMPANY CLAIMS TO DELIVER 95% 4G COVERAGE IN KERRY

MOBILE phone company ‘Three’ has claimed this week that a recently completed upgrade to its network in Kerry means it can now deliver 4G coverage to 95 per cent of the county.

It comes as part of a €300million investment by the company in its national network, and a spokespers­on said the upgrade in Kerry was one of the first it has rolled out in the country as part of this national upgrade scheme.

The company added that Kerry have been putting the updated network to good use, with almost 900 gigabytes of data going through the system every hour – the equivalent of more than 43million WhatsApp messages. Three Chief Technical Officer David Hennessy claimed that network customers are availing of average 4G speeds of 20 megabits per second as well as improved phone coverage since the 02 and Three networks integrated.

“Three customers in 4G areas like Kerry can experience faster mobile data speeds to watch videos, post to social media and stream music without having to worry about their data usage with Three’s unique offering of All You Can Eat Data,” he said. “As one of the first areas to be upgraded, I’m delighted to see these improvemen­ts in Kerry where we are now delivering 95% population coverage for 4G in addition to improved access to 2G and 3G.”
