The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Fr Sean’s is first Ordination in Kerry Diocese since 2007
LAST Sunday marked a special day for the parishioners of Moyvane as local man Sean Jones (30) became the first priest to be ordained in the Diocese of Kerry since 2007.
Fr Sean’s ordination was held in the Church of the Assumption in a ceremony presided over by Bishop Ray Browne.
Fr Sean’s family and friends gathered to witness the occasion and the Listowel choir certainly added to the event with a glorious range of music worthy of the occasion. It was a local moment in every sense for Fr Sean as his ordination took place in the same church where he was baptised and received his first Holy Communion.
It was with a huge sense of pride that he celebrated his first mass on the following evening (Monday) in the Church of the Assumption.
Fr Sean completed his training for the priesthood in the parishes of Listowel and Killarney and attended Tarbert Comprehensive School prior to studying for a degree in theology in Maynooth.
A message on the Diocese of Kerry’s webpage described the day as “an occasion to rejoice and give thanks to God.” Following the ceremony, the nearby Community Centre hosted a large crowd where refreshments were enjoyed in a special atmosphere.
Fr Sean also becomes the first priest to be ordained in Kerry since Bishop Ray Browne’s arrival in the county.
