Funding for schools and community groups under 2018 Clár programme

- By KATHLEEN O’SULLIVAN

EIGHT community groups and schools in Kerry are to receive new government funding under the CLÁR programme’s latest round of funding – allocated for safety measures in schools and for community groups around the country.

The chosen Kerry schools are Caherdaniel NS, St Finian’s NS, Aghatubrid NS, Ballyfinnane NS and Holy Family NS Rathmore. The community groups are Rathmore Community Council, Barraduff Tidy Village Committee and Cloghane Brandon.

They will receive funding ranging from €9,000 to €49,500 to improve facilities including pedestrian access and speed safety lights and signs for schools, and accommodation works, footpaths and bus shelters for the community groups.

Senator Paul Coghlan said that the funds are vital to improve the standard of safety in our local areas:

“These measures will help to keep not only our children, but all those who live in CLÁR areas safe, which is very welcome. The Programme forms a significant part of Fine Gael’s Action Plan for Rural Development which was launched in January 2017.”

Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring TD has allocated €4.8 million to 170 projects in rural areas across the country.

There will also be two further rounds of CLÁR funding this year, allocating funds for play areas and first response supports in areas not yet announced.
