Summer wouldn’t be summer without the Sneem Summer Festival

-

YOU don’t need a reason to visit Sneem at any time in the year but when the Sneem Summer Festival is on it’s usually the best time to be there. This year’s festival runs from July 18-22 when the usual splash of entertainment for adults and children gives the village and its surrounds a wonderful mid-summer lift.

This is one festival with a sense of family and community at its core - a festival that conjoins the efforts of its volunteers which the Sneem Summer Festival is fortunate to have. This is the locality’s showcase event of the year and every effort goes into making sure people of all ages have something to enthral them.

Amy Foley of the organising committee praised the hardworking volunteers who have invested months of effort into ensuring Sneem has the best 5 days it possibly can this July. Amy said the enthusiasm and drive within the community is stronger than ever for the festival, something that is very much part and parcel of Sneem’s calendar of events.

“The people love it and they all give a hand. It’s a tradition and people love the build-up to it every year. We’ve been working on this all year round and we have a committee of 7 who work together,” Amy said.

“Local businesses also help us in any way they can which is of huge benefit in terms of sustaining the festival’s future. It’s a festival that has everything with a broad range of events catering for families, individuals, young and old. It’s just that kind of festival and we make sure no one category or group is catered for - but all categories,” she added.

And don’t forget on the Saturday evening the hugely popular Barn Dance takes place in the Festival Marquee at 9pm. This is not to be missed. The good news is that this is all just a sample of what to expect over the 5 days and you really should check out the full list of events on the Sneem Summer Festival Facebook page where regular updates will be posted.
