Rathmore see off Spa to claim Junior League crown

EAST KERRY JUNIOR LEAGUE FINAL Rathmore 2-14 Spa 2-8

RATHMORE won the Junior League Final sponsored by Kerry Physiother­apy & Rehabilita­tion Centre Killarney, in very sporting fast moving game played in Spa.

The home side got off to a dream start with a goal and a point in opening three minutes. The goal from Corey Doyle, Rathmore reduced to margin to the minimum when Michael A Kelliher Rattled to net on the seven minute a scatter of points saw the sides going into to second quarter.

Rathmore dominated the scoring to lead at interval – Rathmore 1-8 Spa 1-4. On the teams’ return Rathmore continued to dominate and extended their lead into Dean Fitzgerald (goal) and three unanswered points on the 44 minutes 2-11 to 1-4.

The slides swapped points before Rathmore goalkeeper Sean O’Riordan had a great save in goal. However Spa built another attack and Andy Fitzgerald sent a rebound to back of net for Spa – 2-12 to 2-5 in 52 minute.

Spa kept in touched up to the final whistle, but Rathmore held out to win. The James Doyle Memorial cup jointly Presented to Rathmore captain Colm Kelly by the late James Doyle’s nephew young James Doyle, sponsor Ruth Allen and Johnny Brosnan, chairman of East Kerry committee.
