Environment group get leave to judicially review LNG planning
THE Friends of the Irish Environment (FIE) group was given leave to appeal An Bord Pleanála’s decision to grant a five-year extension of planning permission to the Shannon LNG plan at the High Court on Thursday. In a statement on its website, the group claimed that An Bord Pleanála ‘took no account’ of the 2015 Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act of 2015. “It made little sense in 2007 to build a gas terminal to handle enough gas to supply twice Ireland’s daily consumption and it makes even less sense now. The pathways to a post-carbon world have been clearly laid out and they do not include locking Ireland into the use of fossil fuels for another generation.” The matter comes again before the High Court on October 18 next.
