Remembering triumph of ‘93

The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition) - - COMMUNITY NEWS -

FROM 1982 to 1990, the Kerry senior ladies footballers won nine All-Ireland titles on the trot.

Waterford won the next two and Kerry won again in 1993 in what was the last hurrah and swansong for those great players.

Kerry have, unfortunately, not managed to win the title since.

That team of 25 years ago, which defeated Laois on a score of 4-8 to 2-6, was recently honoured at half-time in the All-Ireland Ladies football final between Dublin and Cork.

Marie Teahan (née Fitzgerald), sister of the former Kerry footballer Maurice Fitzgerald, was at centre field in that 1993 team and duly went on to win an All-Star at midfield for that year.

Mary Keating (née Sheehan), wife of Anthony Keating of The

Fisherman’s Bar in Portmagee, was a substitute.
