Plough­ing sea­son starts anew this week­end

IT’S pedal to the metal time this week­end as mem­bers of the Abbey­dor­ney Plough­ing As­so­ci­a­tion hope to get some early points on the board at the start of a new plough­ing sea­son here in Kerry.

It all kicks off this com­ing Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14, on the lands of Bar­ney Dowl­ing at Kil­bri­cane from 12noon to 4pm and af­ter speak­ing to PRO for the as­so­ci­a­tion, Tom O’Ma­hony, it sounds like they’ve got a great day in store.

“We could have 20 to 25 peo­ple com­pet­ing on the day in 10 dif­fer­ent classes, There will U21, U28, Se­nior Trac­tor, Horse Class, Reversible and the Ladies Class just to name a few,” said Tom, speak­ing on Mon­day morn­ing.

“Ev­ery­one is go­ing to be com­pet­ing and try­ing to get marks to win their class to rep­re­sent Kerry in the All-Ire­land next year,” he con­tin­ued.

Added ex­cite­ment on the day comes from the ‘Best Dressed Male’ and ‘Best Dressed Lady’ prizes.

En­try is €5 and there will be a gate prize drawn on the day.

Up­com­ing events in the new plough­ing sea­son in­cludes the County Cham­pi­onship match in Bal­ly­heigue on Oc­to­ber 21, a match in Ard­fert on Oc­to­ber 28, an­other match in Kil­lar­ney on Novem­ber 4 with Cause­way and Bal­ly­duff matches be­ing held in the spring­time.
