Ploughing season starts anew this weekend
IT’S pedal to the metal time this weekend as members of the Abbeydorney Ploughing Association hope to get some early points on the board at the start of a new ploughing season here in Kerry.
It all kicks off this coming Sunday, October 14, on the lands of Barney Dowling at Kilbricane from 12noon to 4pm and after speaking to PRO for the association, Tom O’Mahony, it sounds like they’ve got a great day in store.
“We could have 20 to 25 people competing on the day in 10 different classes, There will U21, U28, Senior Tractor, Horse Class, Reversible and the Ladies Class just to name a few,” said Tom, speaking on Monday morning.
“Everyone is going to be competing and trying to get marks to win their class to represent Kerry in the All-Ireland next year,” he continued.
Added excitement on the day comes from the ‘Best Dressed Male’ and ‘Best Dressed Lady’ prizes.
Entry is €5 and there will be a gate prize drawn on the day.
Upcoming events in the new ploughing season includes the County Championship match in Ballyheigue on October 21, a match in Ardfert on October 28, another match in Killarney on November 4 with Causeway and Ballyduff matches being held in the springtime.
