SUNDAY was a great day for all as Castleisland hosted an outstanding event ‘Run for Joy.’

It was organised as a thank you to the locals who supported Miriam Joy and her Gofundme page which raised over €230k in July.

The day was a huge success and the weather helped too as all the events took place in and around An Riocht Athletic Club

The 5k family fun run took place at 11am through the streets and roads of the town.

“Local businesses rallied behind the organisers and An Riocht kindly allowed use of their state of the art facility for the event,” said co-organiser, Tadhg McGillicuddy.

“Kerry football stars: Marc O Se, Kieran Donaghy, Paul Murphy, Brendan O Sullivan and David Moran were there on the day taking part in the fun and rattling off spot prizes.

“These prizes were supplied by local companies like Crowley’s Pharmacy and Garvey’s SuperValu.

“It was a great community effort which got behind the Joy and Fitzgerald families. Miriam was there on the day and she really enjoyed herself and she was delighted with the support and effort made by the town,” said Tadhg.
