CASTLEISLAND HOSTS MUNSTER PIONEER COUNCIL MEETING:
THE Castleisland branch of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association played host to a Munster council meeting in the rooms of the St Vincent de Paul building recently.
Delegates from Beaufort, Currow, Ballydesmond and Castleisland itself were welcomed by Tom Horan and a special welcome was extended to members of the Munster council.
“Despite the fall in numbers of the association, those present felt that the movement is still relevant in today’s society,” said Tom Horan.
“Due to the loss of the Kerry PTAA Social, it was suggested that a Sunday lunch be held in different areas over the year for the benefit of members to meet and socialise.
“It was also proposed that branches within Kerry should amalgamate to strengthen the organisation.
“Next year marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of the association and plans were discussed to commemorate the occasion.
“It was an honour for the Castleisland centre to hold the meeting and it concluded with tea and refreshments,” said Mr Horan.
