Threshing Cancer

The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition) - - BUSINESS AWARDS 2018 -

SINCE it started over six years ago, Threshing Cancer has raised over €170,000 for local cancer charities. By amalgamating traditional farming practises and family fun, it has managed to turn a simple idea into a major fundraiser for a worthy cause. A small committee of seven volunteers find that motivation is never a problem as they put their shoulder to the wheel year on year. Recovery Haven, Kerry Hospice, Kerry Cancer Support Link Bus and KGH Oncology Unit are the beneficiaries of Threshing Cancer’s innovative idea. This is a vintage day that prides itself on supporting lifesaving services which gives the committee and volunteers a huge sense of satisfaction and motivation. This also has the knock-on effect of bringing comfort to patients and their families during a difficult time. This organisation is immensely proud of its achievements knowing they are helping to support essential cancer support services in Kerry. What’s more, Threshing Cancer receive glowing praise from patients who have benefitted from treatment from some of the said services. This is a fantastic social project as cancer can affect so many people today. This is the driving force behind Threshing Cancer as it continues to enhance and grow its event. They are also a humble group of people who do what they do in unison and for the sole purpose of providing a social good for patients who avail of these acute and necessary services within their own county.
