FOR over three decades KWD Recycling has grown to become one of the leading waste management companies for the Kerry, west Cork and west Limerick regions. Serving both the domestic and commercial sector, it collects all types of general waste, food waste, dry, recycling and glass which makes it one of the largest in the south west. In 2011, the company initiated the first annual County Clean-Up in Ireland in conjunction with Kerry County Council. This has since produced huge interest among the public who have really taken to the task. It also works closely with Tidy Towns, Chambers of Commerce and the wider community to find out ways to promote participation. Being proactive is a key part of what this business does as it uses an array of local and social media forums to encourage volunteers. Since launching the KWD Recycling initiative, it has collected over 80,000 bags of waste free of charge. It employs 76 people and is a leading example of how a business can work efficiently with voluntary bodies to achieve a common purpose. Tourism has also benefitted from this creative approach with positive feedback from local tourism bodies praising KWD Recycling. A National School programme ‘Recycle Right’ has also resulted in the participation of over 4,000 pupils who completed recycling workshops. This is a business that provides an efficient service and is pro-actively committed to encouraging its customers to reuse, reuse and recycle.
