Mags in­spir­ing oth­ers through her own weight loss

MAGS Sav­age Bell has been there and done that when it comes to weight loss. The Tralee mother-of-two has bat­tled with weight all her life, and at her low­est point she reached 18st 9Ib. In many ways Mags’ story is the same as ev­ery­one else’s: tried ev­ery­thing and any­thing; lost a bit and gained a bit.

Be­fore at­tend­ing Weight­watch­ers in 2004, noth­ing had ever worked for Mags. But to­day she weighs 11st 4Ib – a loss of 7st 3Ib. Mags is noth­ing if not de­ter­mined and now she wants to help oth­ers achieve their goal of not just los­ing weight, but also do­ing it in a way that be­comes a life­style choice.

‘Well­ness that Works’ is the name of the class for men and women look­ing to lose weight. Mags is tak­ing over the class from Breda O’Shea on Novem­ber 13 and she is look­ing for­ward to shar­ing her story and ex­pe­ri­ences with clients.

“It’s im­por­tant to em­pha­sise the im­por­tance of weight loss to our well­ness. The pos­i­tiv­ity sur­round­ing weight loss needs to be ex­plored more by ev­ery­one. We have a mix­ture of all ages in the class and more peo­ple are now in tune with their men­tal well­ness. Food, and a healthy life­style, are ma­jor com­po­nents of this,” Mags said.

Any­one who has ever lost weight will know that the fear of putting it all back on again is a con­stant source of anx­i­ety and worry. This can have a crip­pling ef­fect on men­tal health, which is one of the rea­sons why Mags wants to share her ex­pe­ri­ences. The pos­i­tiv­ity that comes with find­ing your own niche when los­ing weight is also im­por­tant to Mags. She be­lieves that los­ing weight is a ‘nice feel­ing’; but main­tain­ing weigh loss is life-chang­ing.

Mags said: “We’re all on this jour­ney to­gether and no one should have any in­hi­bi­tions. Our ‘Flex’ plan is all about flex­i­bil­ity. There are no foods that we can’t have as ev­ery­thing in mod­er­a­tion is key. I’m look­ing for­ward to meet­ing peo­ple and help­ing them achieve a happy and healthy weight.”
