LIZZY Lyons was the choice this year for The Lis­towel Food Fair Lo­cal Food Hero Award for 2018. ‘Lizzys Lit­tle Kitchen’ ini­tia­tive was born in the lo­cal Farm­ers Mar­ket in 2014, which takes place ev­ery Fri­day in Lis­towel. The Food Fair com­mit­tee started the mar­ket back in the 1990’s with the sup­port and en­cour­age­ment of Da­rina Allen.It is now a very im­por­tant part of what the town has to of­fer for both lo­cals and vis­i­tors alike. Lizzy has al­ready been recog­nised by food writ­ers John & Sally McKenna, the Restau­rants As­so­ci­a­tion of Ire­land and the Ir­ish Curry Awards.She is a brand Am­bas­sador for Flo­gas and is a reg­u­lar co­p­re­sen­ter with Si­mon De­laney on TV3 She grad­u­ated from the Farm­ers Mar­ket in June 2015 and set up Lizzy’s Lit­tle Kitchen Pop Up, Main St. Bally­bunion. Fol­low­ing its in­stant suc­cess Lizzy was mo­ti­vated to open a restau­rant in Lis­towel in 2016 in Lower Wil­liam St. This is now con­sid­ered one of the top ‘lit­tle restau­rants’ in the coun­try. Lizzy puts ma­jor em­pha­sis on sourc­ing lo­cal food and avoid­ing the mass pro­duced prodects thaks on of­fer in many of our na­tive restau­rants. She is a worthy win­ner of the award.
