Ballymac Enya lands Oaks win for Liam Dowling

THERE was huge cause for celebratio­n in the Kingdom on Tuesday afternoon when the Liam Dowling bred, owned and trained Ballymac Enya won the Horse and Jockey Hotel Oaks at the national coursing meeting in Clonmel.

The May whelp was an oddson favourite going into the final course and had two lengths to spare over Crafty Perfecto to spark wild celebratio­ns among the Dowlings and the large Kerry support in Powerstown.

A little earlier there was more cause for celebratio­n among the Kindom contingent when Ahamore Wonder was a somewhat surprise winner of the Champion Stakes. A 20/1 shot on Tuesday morning he burned through the remaining buckles for trainer Dan Brassil to eventually beat Granard Bolt in the final.

Owned by Martin and Muiris Galvin from Lixnaw, Ahamore Wonder was bred by Patsy Joy from Killorglin.

Another Dan Brassil runner, Southofher­e, was beaten in nthe final of the Champion Bitch Stakes by the red-hot favourite Blades of Honour, while John Flynn’s Heart Over Mind was a beaten finalist in the Kitty Butler Consolatio­n Stakes, going down to Laurina in the final buckle.

Another Dowling dog, Ballymac Hugo, had to give second best to Wi Can There in the final of the T.A. Morris Stakes.

The Boylesport­s Derby was won by Rumour Has It, owned by Bernie Diskin-Holian and Basil Holian, and he got the better of Huntingtow­n in the final.
