Help make history this Thursday

The Kerryman (Tralee Edition) - - TARBERT -

LOTS of local people did lots of things – and strange things, too - at The Market House in the course of its several hundred years of trading at the bottom of the town.

I bet you that no generation of Islanders ever gathered within its deeply historic walls to drink coffee for a local and worthy charity.

We can make our own bit of history on this Thursday, September 14 by doing just that for the Kerry Hospice Foundation Coffee Morning from 9am to 5pm. That makes it a coffee morning, noon and evening and so be it.

“Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning is one of the major fundraisers for hospice nationwide and this year the event will take place Thursday, September 14 in venues all over the country,” said local branch PRO Liz Galwey.

The Castleisland branch is on the move this year and its members have announced that the Market House building on Lower Main Street will be the venue for the day. Liz said that the committee is also inviting people to host an event in their own homes or businesses. Coffee and promotional material will be provided by hospice.

“There is flexibility around the event so if the 14th doesn’t suit you then you can hold your event on another morning,’ she said.

“Jack Shanahan will host a coffee morning on the 14 th in his Haven Pharmacy at Garvey’s SuperValu and Eileen O’Shea, Droumroe, Currow will host a coffee morning on Friday, September 22 in her home,” said Liz.

The local branch is also putting out a request for assistance on the day so if you have a free hour please contact Liz on 086 28 33 328.

Kerry Hospice is a completely voluntary organisation. All funds raised locally will remain in Kerry.

The official grand opening of the new Palliative Care Inpatient Unit, located on the grounds of University Hospital Kerry, will take place on Friday, September 22.

For further details or to obtain a coffee morning pack please contact Jack Shanahan on 066 71 41225 between 9am and 7pm or any other committee member.

Hospice branch chairman Jack Shanahan is leading his committee to the Market House for coffee tomorrow from 9am.
