KERRY County Council is investigating the dumping of a huge amount of commercial waste in a small yard off a laneway in Tralee town centre.

In recent weeks several businesses in the immediate area have complained about ongoing dumping in the small fenced yard where a pile of stinking rubbish – now several feet deep – has been deposited.

The trash – which has been festering in the recent heatwave – includes crates of bottles, boxes and what appears to be a large amount of kitchen-related rubbish.

When The Kerryman went to the site – which is close to several busy restaurants – a number of rats could be clearly seen scurrying around amid the garbage.

Kerry County Council said they are aware of the matter and are currently in discussions with the proprietors of the site with a view to resolving the matter as soon as possible.
