Tralee’s Aqua­man Mike sets new PBs in Europe

TRALEE swim­mer Mike O’Con­nell proved his tal­ent last week at the Euro­pean Masters Cham­pi­onships in Slove­nia where he set five new per­sonal records.

Mike is a mem­ber of the King­dom Masters and the Ir­ish Development Squad and trav­elled to Slove­nia to rep­re­sent his county and coun­try at the Euro­pean cham­pi­onships, hav­ing qual­i­fied for his place on the Ir­ish team over the past two years at var­i­ous swim­ming galas. This is sec­ond time qual­i­fy­ing for Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships.

Hours of train­ing were put in by the well known swim­mer and it paid off as he set a new per­sonal record in each of his races, a huge achieve­ment for given that he is now in his 30’s.

Mike com­peted in the 100m freestyle rank­ing 15th, 200 freestyle (10th), 400m freestyle (10th) 100m but­ter­fly (17th) and 200 IM (21st) and was de­lighted given the high stan­dard of com­pe­ti­tion.
