Fund­ing an­nounced for mo­bil­ity and can­cer care in Kerry

MIN­IS­TER of State for Tourism and Sport, Bren­dan Grif­fin has said that new funds of up to €332,893 will be made avail­able to a num­ber of mo­bil­ity and Can­cer Care trans­port ser­vices in Kerry.

Min­is­ter Grif­fin said the CLÁR pro­gramme fund­ing will sup­port the pur­chas­ing and fit out of ve­hi­cles to trans­port peo­ple for med­i­cal ser­vices.

The ser­vices that will ben­e­fit from this new fund­ing in­clude the Bum­bleance (€50,000), the So­cial Ac­tion Group Rath­more (€72,525) the Knock­nagoshel Over 55’s So­cial Club and Women’s Group (€68,000) the Kerry Can­cer Sup­port Group (€45,000) and the Rock­mount Care Cen­tre (€97,368)

“The fund­ing will sup­port and will al­low for the trans­port to and from des­ig­nated can­cer treat­ment hos­pi­tals/ cen­tres un­der the Na­tional Can­cer Care Pro­gramme, and trans­port for peo­ple with sig­nif­i­cant mo­bil­ity is­sues, in­clud­ing those re­quir­ing spe­cialised wheel­chair ac­ces­si­ble ve­hi­cles, to day­care or other med­i­cal, ther­a­peu­tic or respite ser­vices,” said Min­is­ter Grif­fin.

“This fund­ing will pro­vide ve­hi­cles that will en­able peo­ple liv­ing in ru­ral ar­eas to travel to med­i­cal care or respite cen­tres free of charge,” he con­tin­ued.

“The dif­fer­ence that these pro­vi­sion of these ve­hi­cles will make to the lives of fam­i­lies in re­mote ru­ral ar­eas in Kerry who have to at­tend day care or med­i­cal ser­vices is in­cal­cu­la­ble,” he fin­ished.

The So­cial Ac­tion Rath­more Group will use the new fund­ing to help buy a new 19-seater Mercedes Bus with a lift and which will have space for four wheel­chairs.

The Knock­nagoshel Over 55’s So­cial Club and Women’s Group are hop­ing to use the fund­ing to help pur­chase a new wheel­chair ac­ces­si­ble bus while the Rock­mount Care Cen­tre will buy an ac­ces­si­ble adapted bus and four seater car.
