Griffin and Healy Rae at war over budget VAT hike
THE fallout from the budget VAT hike has prompted ferocious a war of words between Junior Minister for Tourism Brendan Griffin and Independent TD Michael Healy Rae.
The Kerry TDs battle began when Deputy Healy-Rae issued a statement on Tuesday in which he said it seemed Minister Griffin didn’t make much of an effort to save the special nine per cent VAT rate for tourism.
Deputy Healy-Rae’s comments provoked an uncompromising response from Minister Griffin who – in a statement to The Kerryman – labelled the Deputy Healy-Rae as an “absentee hypocritical populist,”.
