AUSTIN STACKS SENIOR FOOTBALL

Our footballers have one more outing before the season comes to a close and that’s a Town Championship Final encounter against Kerins O’Rahillys. That game, of course will not take place until after the Strand Road boys finish their Co. Championship campaign. In the meantime let us wish our neighbours the best of luck in their semi-final outing on this coming Sunday in Austin Stack Park.

And let us take this opportunity also to wish Strand Road man Edmund Quirke all the best as he takes a well-earned break as Groundsman at the pitches at Caherina and Healy Park. It was always a pleasure to do business with you Eddie.

HURLING

Our Hurlers have at least two more games to play before their season concludes. The first is to take place on this Sunday afternoon (14th Oct) when they are due to face Ballyheigue in the Co. IH Plate Final in Caherslee at 4pm. Then we are due to play Duagh in the South Kerry JH Final on a date and venue still to be finalized as we write.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL

The Junior Town League Final between ourselves and Ardfert has now been fixed for this coming Saturday (13th Oct). The game is due to go ahead in Strand Road at 4pm.

MINOR FOOTBALL

And our Minors are also awaiting a date and venue for their Central Region MF League Final against Laune Rangers.

ANNIVERSARY

Last Sunday (7th Oct) was the 90th anniversary of we winning our first ever Co. SF Co. Championship title as a separate Club ((up until then the three Tralee Clubs were grouped together as a Tralee team when competing in the SF Co. Championship). Our opponents on that October Sunday were our neighbours Kerins O’Rahillys, although in 1928 both Clubs had yet to be known by their current names as the following week’s Kerryman Headline indicated Rock Street Wins County Football Final Strand Street’s Plucky Fight Victors’ Strong Finish in Stirring Contest Morning’s Rain Hampers Attendance. We didn’t have a very good first half at the end of which we trailed by four points to two. But we were totally dominant in the second period, outscoring the opposition by 3-2 to 0-3 which gave us a six points victory at the end (3-4 to 0-7).

Team: William McSweeney, Tommy Barrett, Joe Barrett (Capt) (1-1), Bobby ‘Rucky’ Kelly, Tim ‘Roundy’ Landers, Dan Ryan, Mick Healy, John Joe ‘Purty’ Landers, Denis ‘Rory’ O’Connell, Ned ‘Pedlar’ Sweeney (1-0), Miko Doyle (0-2 frees), Jimmy Kelter, Jimmy Barrett (1-0), James Baily (0-1), Pat ‘Mullins’ Curtin.

Subs: Tom O’Connor, Tadgh Drummond, Mick Landers, Bill Gorman.

With the agreement of the 4 clubs -- Stacks, Abbeydorney, Ballymac & Kerins O’Rahilly -- the North Kerry U11 league was run off as a one day blitz last Sunday morning in Connolly Park. We reached the Cup final V Abbeydorney and after a very competitive game just came up short against the very good Abbeydorney side. U14 GIRLS

Our U14 Div 1 team lost out to Abbeydorney in Connolly Park last Tuesday evening on a score line of Abbeydorney 3-6 Austin Stacks 1-8. OUR U14B

team had a fine win over Ballymac last Sunday evening and it now looks likely we will play Currow in the Div 4 Shield final. The U14 Town League will be run off in a blitz format this year games taking place in Caherslee this Saturday October 13th from 1.30pm.

Both teams performed very well against strong opponents from the Churchill, John Mitchel and Ballymac clubs. Thanks to Muintir Chnoc na hEaglaise for a very enjoyable day’s football. (ii) We’ll have our last Thursday evening Bracker Regan League action this Thursday at 5.45pm in CAHERSLEE. The Bracker Regan/Kevin Barry Finals, however, will take place on Sunday October 21st. (iii) Sunday at 11am games will take place as usual.

We were grateful for a late Gearóid Killgallon goal (díreach mar a dhéanadh a athair fadó!) to get us over the line le dhá chúilín thábhachtacha.
