The Kerryman (Tralee Edition) - - NEWS -

MAYOR of Tralee Cllr Graham Spring (Labour) has called on the council to apply for Green Flag status for Tralee’s renowned Town Park.

The Green Flag Award Scheme – which is overseen by An Taisce – for parks is a benchmark standard for greens and parks which is akin to the well known ‘Blue Flag’ programme for beaches.

Mayor Spring made the call at Monday’s monthly meeting of the Tralee Municipal District where he said securing the flag would recognise the park’s tremendous beauty and all the hard work that goes into maintaining it.

The Mayor also welcomed news that a new caretaker is due to be appointed to look after the park in the near future.

Applications for Green Flag Status must be completed by February and council management said they will immediately set to work and will endeavour to have an application ready in time for An Taisce’s 2019 Green Flag awards’ deadline.
