Kerry’s film royalty on the up once again
KERRY has never been short of talent on the film front, a fact proven once again as Killarney’s Jessie Buckley and Cromane’s Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly were nominated for some of the UK film industry’s most coveted awards.
Jessie Buckley’s film ‘Beast’ in which she plays the lead Moll, was released in 2017 to massive acclaim.
The film this week received 10 nominations in the British Independent Film Awards; including nominations for the Killarney actor in both the ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ categories.
Cromane’s Fodhla has meanwhile been honoured by the BAFTA’s ‘Breakthrough Brits’ initiative, established to celebrate the next generation of British-based talent.
The Cromane producer has been based in London for the last number of years and is among 17 others honoured by the initiative.
She returned to Killarney last year where she screened her penultimate film ‘Lady Macbeth’; her latest film ‘My Generation’ stars Michael Caine. Jessie’s lead role in the dark and uncompromising Beast has won plaudits left, right and centre for the Kerry woman who came to fame in I’d Do Anything.
