Pop­u­lar Strand­hill bar­refused plan­ning

Well known Strand­hill bar and restau­rant, The Strand Bar ( pic­tured) has been turned down for plan­ning for a new front porch and bal­cony.

Own­ers Patsy, John, Johnston and Neil Byrne had ap­plied to the County Coun­cil for per­mis­sion to re­move the ex­ist­ing front porch and bal­cony and build a new porch/ lobby ex­ten­sion which would also be used as a restau­rant wait­ing area with bal­cony to first floor.

How­ever, in a de­ci­sion is­sued last week, Sligo County Coun­cil re­fused per­mis­sion for the pro­posed de­vel­op­ment.

The Area En­gi­neer for Sligo/ Strand­hill, Conor McCann had rec­om­mended in his re­port on the plan­ning file that per­mis­sion be granted for the de­vel­op­ment.

The public file does not state the rea­sons why the coun­cil turned down the ap­pli­ca­tion which can be ap­pealed by the ap­pli­cants to An Bord Pleanala.
