The Sligo Champion - - NEWS -

THE Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Seamus Kilgannon has welcomed the announcement by the Department of Rural and Community Development that funding will be allocated for Local Improvement Schemes.

The Department has asked local Authorities to submit their proposals by 14th September, outlining what schemes can be delivered in the current year.

The Cathaoirleach said: ‘ I welcome the fact that the upturn in the economy has allowed the restoration of funding for LIS schemes.

“While the timeframe is fairly challenging to allow the Council compile the funding proposal, obtain approval and then carry out the works, I think this is good news for Sligo and I am anxious that we will avail of this opportunity to carry out much needed works.

“I have been calling for the restoration of adequate LIS funding since I was re- elected Sligo County Council, and we will be working with the Roads/ Engineering staff to prepare and submit a detailed proposal.’
