All set for test in Mace­do­nia

SLIGO is be­ing firmly placed on the world map this month from var­i­ous sport­ing dis­ci­plines, gold and bronze from swim­ming coming home this week with Mona McSharry, while three young kick­box­ers are hop­ing to add to the suc­cess next week.

Ruth Con­lon- Oates, Cathal Monds and Kyle Keaney will all travel to Skopje in Mace­do­nia this Fri­day Septem­ber 1st.

They will com­pete as part of the Ir­ish Team in the Euro­pean Kick­box­ing Cham­pi­onships.

All 3 fight­ers ded­i­cated their sum­mer hol­i­days to train­ing for the pres­ti­gious event.

The ath­letes were mak­ing reg­u­lar trips to Dublin for squad train­ing along with train­ing 3 times per week in their Col­looney based club un­der the watch­ful eye of Chief In­struc­tor Des Leonard.

Ruth Con­lon- Oates is cur­rent World Bronze medal­ist and is ea­ger to add a Euro­pean ti­tle to her suc­cess­ful fight­ing ca­reer.

Sligo wishes all fight­ers, Ruth, Cathal and Kyle all the very best on their quest for gold in Mace­do­nia as they take part in the Euro­pean Kick­box­ing Cham­pi­onships. RICHARD How­ley from Dooneen En­nis­crone rid­ing Chi­nook has been se­lected to rep­re­sent Ire­land this week at the Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships which will be held in Swe­den. Richard will com­pete as an in­di­vid­ual in the un­der 25years cat­e­gory.

This se­lec­tion fol­lows Richard’s great suc­cess across Europe and the UK this year.
