CALRY/ ST JOSEPH’S

THE senior football team put in a tremendous display of power, accuracy and determination in Markievicz Park last week as they overcame a resilient and committed Naomh Molaise Gaels in the second round of the Bellfry Senior Championship. The game started at a hectic pace and both teams gave as good as they got, as every ball was battled for with ferocity and dedication. The game had all the ingredients of what makes gaelic football great, high fielding, exquisite scores, great tackling and blocking, and thrilling and incisive support play. Our team were ahead at the final whistle on a score of Naomh Molaise Gaels 1— 13 to Calry St Josephs 3— 13. Captained by Kate Moyles, the girls fought hard for every ball and led handsomely after the 2nd quarter. The Spaniards came to terms with the system and fought their way back into the game in the 3rd “Championship Quarter”, but our girls held up in the last quarter and although outscored, they had enough of a cushion to hold on for victory. Thanks to Michelle Tiernan for setting the game up. Underage training continues every Saturday morning at Hazelwood. There will be an urgent meeting in clubhouse at 8.30 on next Wednesday of all managers and club members to discuss plans to restore pitch to an acceptable playing level for future usage. Also thanks to the collectors on Flag Day for their time. Club Lotto draw results:Jackpot € 6,100, numbers drawn 3, 14, 26, 29 and no winner. In the last quarter the fitness of Drumcliffe showed through and the scored a few good points without replay. A very entertaining game and well done to Drumcliffe. U14 meet St. Mary’s in the semi final of the championship on Friday next 1st September in Bunnanadden Community Park. This is a repeat of the league final when these teams met before and Bunnanadden/ Ballymote came out victorious. Please come out and support this talented hard working team. Bunnanadden seniors lost out to Shamrock Gaels in round 2 of the Intermediate Championship on Saturday evening last the 19th August. A score of 1: 16 to 0: 12.
