CALRY/ ST JOSEPH’S
THE senior football team put in a tremendous display of power, accuracy and determination in Markievicz Park last week as they overcame a resilient and committed Naomh Molaise Gaels in the second round of the Bellfry Senior Championship. The game started at a hectic pace and both teams gave as good as they got, as every ball was battled for with ferocity and dedication. The game had all the ingredients of what makes gaelic football great, high fielding, exquisite scores, great tackling and blocking, and thrilling and incisive support play. Well done to the Junior team who had a good championship win on Sunday evening. Wednesday was a proud day for the Club as our girls U/ 13 Development squad represented Ireland in an “International Compromise Rules” game against a Spanish selection. Captained by Kate Moyles, the girls fought hard for every ball and led handsomely after the 2nd quarter. The Spaniards came to terms with the system and fought their way back into the game in the 3rd “Championship Quarter”, but our girls held up in the last quarter and although outscored, they had enough of a cushion to hold on for victory. Thanks to Michelle Tiernan for setting the game up. Underage training continues every Saturday morning at Hazelwood.
