Due to re­quests and sug­ges­tions around traf­fic mea­sures and safety Cadra is cur­rently in dis­cus­sion with Sligo County Coun­cil re the de­vel­op­ment of a one way traf­fic sys­tem at Church.

The con­cept is to have traf­fic en­ter from the School side and Martin Reilly Garage side but exit only op­po­site the church Gate. The idea is to re­duce the num­ber of cars meet­ing at the school side of this very busy junc­tion. The ob­jec­tive is safety.

Par­ents with chil­dren due to start school on Thurs­day, August 31, are ad­vised to re­mem­ber to take your child to your GP for the Booster Vac­cines – for more in­for­ma­tion visit im­mu­ni­sa­tion. ie. With the school re­open­ing next Thurs­day af­ter the sum­mer hol­i­day we wel­come all pupils and es­pe­cially those start­ing school.

We again ap­peal to par­ents to use the ded­i­cated walled off park­ing area at school to drop and col­lect chil­dren. Dou­ble yel­low lines have been placed in the area and An Garda Síochána has ad­vised the law will be en­forced.


The Cadra walk for Her­itage week to the CARNs on Cairns hill last Tues­day was great suc­cesses in rais­ing aware­ness of the area. We ap­pre­ci­ate the sup­port demon­strated by the seventy five peo­ple of all ages that at­tended de­spite the very in­clement weather. Ste­fan Bergh gave a very en­light­en­ing talk on the history, and its con­nec­tions back to 3200 BC and an­swered the many in­ter­est­ing ques­tion posed by the au­di­ence.

This is the first stage in a cam­paign to have the CARNS pre­served, pro­tected and de­vel­oped for fu­ture gen­er­a­tions. We will con­tinue to ad­vo­cate hav­ing proper struc­tured walk­ways de­vel­oped to en­sure public ac­cess is avail­able.

We were par­tic­u­larly please to wit­ness the in­ter­est among the fol­low­ing public rep­re­sen­ta­tives who at­tended ; Tony McLough­lin TD, TD Ea­monn Scan­lon, TD Martin Kenny, Cllr Marie Casser­ley, We re­ceived apolo­gies from the fol­low­ing who could not at­tend due to pre­vi­ously ar­ranged com­mit­ments but did con­vey their sup­port for our ef­forts Cllr Tom Mac Sharry, Cllr Keith Henry, Cllr Hu­bert Keaney, Cllr Sinéad Maguire Cllr Chris Mac Manus, Cllr Ros­aleen O’Grady, Cllr Thomas Healy, Cllr Martin Baker, Cllr Séa­mus Kil­gan­non Chair Sligo County Coun­cil at­tended and ad­dressed the group as­sur­ing Sligo County Coun­cil sup­port in hav­ing the area de­vel­oped the area within walking dis­tance of Sligo Town with its historic ar­chae­ol­ogy dat­ing back to 3400BC and its link­age to Car­row­more, Knocknarea, Maugh­er­boy, Car­rowkeel has the po­ten­tial to be a ma­jor tourist at­trac­tion.

The de­vel­op­ment of prop- er walks and mar­ket­ing could ex­tend the stay of the tourist in Sligo and be a gen­er­a­tor of the eco­nomic growth and jobs for Sligo. We again say thanks all who at­tended in­clud­ing Ocean Fm, Week­ender, Sligo Cham­pion and the Get Grounded Cof­fee Cart Ser­vice for at­tend­ing and pro­vid­ing tea or cof­fee to the vis­i­tors. The au­tumn fed­er­a­tion meet­ing will be held on Septem­ber 13 at 8 p. m. in Kil­mactighe hall at 8 p. m., it is hosted by Aclare guild; we would ask all guilds to sup­port this meet­ing.

Coolaney Guild cel­e­brates its Golden Ju­bilee on Fri­day, Septem­ber 29, at 8 p. m. in Coolaney Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, it is an open night and all guilds are in­vited to come and cel­e­brate with them. Thank you to all the mem­bers that took part in the an­nual walk for the Cancer Sup­port Cen­tre Wine Street Sligo. Sin­cere thanks to the guilds for send­ing in their spon­sor­ship cards and monies.

The winter con­fer­ence will be held in the Glen­royal Ho­tel in Maynooth – more in­for­ma­tion next week.


Cadra has been in­formed that Car­raroe is ap­proved for a re­cy­cling bot­tle/ can bank. It is pro­posed to lo­cate it at the car park be­side the weigh­bridge. We are in­ter­ested in your views on this de­vel­op­ment.
