The Cor­ran Play­ers Drama Group will be hold­ing their AGM in Doddy’s meet­ing room on Thurs­day night next August 31 at 8 p. m. Ev­ery­one wel­come to at­tend.


The sum­mer Stars Read­ing pro­gramme at Ballymote Com­mu­nity Li­brary be­gan at the end of June and con­cludes with a cer­e­mony in the li­brary on Satur­day, Septem­ber 2, at 11.30 a. m. Cathaoir­leach coun­cil­lor Séa­mus Kil­gan­non will be on hand to present all par­tic­i­pat­ing chil­dren with a sum­mer Stars Medal and Cer­tifi­cate, and not for­get­ting some treats.

Sum­mer Stars 2017 was a huge suc­cess in Ballymote Com­mu­nity Li­brary with two hun­dred and fifty two chil­dren join­ing the pro­gramme. Of those, forty six were join­ing the Li­brary for the first time in or­der to take part. Over five thou­sand chil­dren’s books were checked out dur­ing the read­ing chal­lenge, which is six hun­dred more than last year.

The chil­dren re­ally en­joyed or­der­ing in their favourite books for free us­ing the new na­tional li­brary sys­tem. As well as read­ing, chil­dren vis­ited Ballymote Li­brary through­out the sum­mer to en­joy cod­ing classes, board game ses­sions, the book doc­tor’s clinic and two hun­dred and 50 chil­dren at­tended our weekly sum­mer story time and craft ses­sions. Con­grat­u­la­tions to all our young read­ers.


Well done to all who par­tic­i­pated and rep­re­sented the CCE Paddy Kil­lo­ran branch at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉire­ann 2017 and a big thank you for the com­mit­ment from all our tu­tors and par­ents and the sup­port from other South Sligo branches and the lo­cal com­mu­nity. The death has taken place on Cleve­land Ohio on August 13 of Fred Maloney – hus­band of Kath­leen Grady for­merly of Kil­free, Gur­teen. Fred and his wife made many vis­its home to Kil­free over the years and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and en­joyed his friend­ship. Sin­cere sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to his wife Kath­leen, his sons, daugh­ters, grand­chil­dren and to all re­la­tions and many friends on their be­reave­ment. May he rest in Peace.

The death took place in Florida of Frances Phillips ( née Mor­ris­roe) late of Charlestown Co. Mayo. She was sis­ter of Ros­aleen Con­lon. Sin­cere sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to Ros­aleen, Paddy and fam­ily on their be­reave­ment. Fu­neral ar­range­ments will be an­nounced later. May she rest in Peace.


Wel­comed in the Sacra­ment of bap­tism on last Satur­day was Han­nah Elsie Cryan daugh­ter of Jackie and Ciaran Cryan, Knock­naskeagh – and a sis­ter to Emily.
