Calls for Long­fordSligo com­muter train

THERE’S been fur­ther calls made on Ir­ish Rail to pro­vide an early morn­ing com­muter train from Long­ford to Sligo.

Cathaoir­leach of Sligo County Coun­cil Cllr Sea­mus Kil­gan­non tabled a mo­tion call­ing for the ser­vice to cater for work­ers and stu­dents.

“Here we have a piece of in­fra­struc­ture that is there - the first train to ar­rive from Dublin is at 11am,” he said.

He said an early morn­ing rail ser­vice from Long­ford get­ting in to Sligo at 8am would be a “won­der­ful ser­vice” for the area.

He also pointed out that there are many peo­ple who can’t af­ford a car.

“Just see the ad­van­tages it would bring to IT Sligo. It’s some­thing that should be ex­plored. I put this down be­fore and I didn’t get too far,” he said.

“It’s un­for­tu­nate Ir­ish Rail are not lis­ten­ing to us,” said Cllr De­clan Bree.

Cllr Thomas Healy agreed, sayign it would be great for the towns and vil­lages out­side Sligo such as Col­looney and Bal­ly­mote also.

Cllrs Sinead Maguire and Mayor Hu­bert Keaney also sup­ported the mo­tion, say­ing Sligo had more peo­ple com­ing here to work.
