St Farnan’s too strong for Geevagh
Pat Hughes added a point for Geevagh but it was St. Farnan’s who had the lions share of possession and at half time they led 0-9 to 0-5 with points from Shane Neary, Finnian and two from Ciaran O’Connor including a well taken free from a difficult angle. Geevagh’s three points came from frees from Ken Sweeney.
Geevagh made the better start after the break with points from Ken Sweeney and Jodie O’Reilly.
Conor Gordon had replaced Shane Neary for St. Farnan’s at the start of the half.
St. Farnan’s were resolute in their determination not to let their lead slip any further and with a terrific team display they controlled the game.
After Keith Lang got the game’s only goal they led by 8 points half way through the half.
It was clear that there could only be one winner. The match finished with both sides a player down following the sending off of Geevagh’s captain Daithi O’Reilly and just after that St. Farnan’s captain Mattie Lang.
Both players received two yellow cards. St. Farnan’s had great displays from a number of players, including the O’Connor brothers, Finnian Cawley, John Quinn, Mark Devaney and James Hynes.
Indeed it was a fine team performance from all the players including the subs.
Geevagh had good displays from Ken Sweeney, Pat Hughes and goalie Darren Kearns who had a number of saves to make.
St. Farnan’s will be happy with this outing and with the spread of scores, eight players found their names on the scoring sheet.
Geevagh will be disappointed that they couldn’t match the opposition’s performance on the day.
St Farnan’s now progress to meet St John’s in the Intermediate final.
