Mak­ing money at Rag Week with drugs

A young man who came to Sligo dur­ing Rag Week in­tended mak­ing a few pounds through the sale of il­le­gal drugs, Judge Kevin Kil­rane re­marked at Sligo Dis­trict Court.

Be­fore the court was Gavin Kier­nan (23), La­m­agh, New­town­forbes, Long­ford who ad­mit­ted a pos­sessin charge at Brookfield on Fe­bru­ary 24 th 2016.

The court heard he ran off on see­ing Garda, throw­ing away nine small bags which con­tained ec­stasy. There was also a deal of co­caine found in his car.

The street value of the drugs was €890.

The court heard the de­fen­dant hadn’t come to Garda no­tice since.

Judge Kil­rane said he was go­ing to give the de­fen­dant a chance and ap­plied the Pro­ba­tion Act.

At the same court, John Pearse Hever, Car­ri­g­ans Up­per, Bal­ly­mote was fined €300 for pos­sess­ing €50 worth of ec­stasy at his home on De­cem­ber 15 th 2015 fol­low­ing a ser­ach by Gar­daí.

The case was in for hear­ing but the de­fen­dant was not in court said Mr Ger­ard McGovern, so­lic­i­tor (de­fend­ing) who said he had wrote to Hever.
