‘Out of his mind with alcohol’ - Judge
A driver described as being out of his mind with alcohol was fined €250 and banned from driving for three years when he appeared at Sligo District Court. Michael McNally (62) of Cloverhill, Carrowmore was arrested for drunk driving at Carrowbunnaun on October 15 th 2017. A sample later showed a reading of 216mgs of alcohol per 100mls of blood. Mr Mark Mullaney, solicitor (defending), agreed with Judge Kevin Kilrane that the reading was very high. Mr Mullaney applied for a postponement of the driving ban for a number of months to December but Judge Kilrane suggested it would be better for the defendant to “take his medicine now” and that it wasn’t in his best interests to wait until then. McNally said he wished to make arrangements regarding transport as there was no public sources available to him. The Judge said the defendant had enough time to do this noting that the offence was committed last October. The ban’s implementation was put back to October 15 th.
