Myers wins national title
HE is only 16 years old and already showing class on the National boxing stage.
Paddy Myers, who boxes with Sligo City Boxing Club was the Irish Senior Cadets title recently.
The teenager was competing in the National Stadium over three weekends and won all of his fights with Dublin’s Declan Malone, Thomas Doherty and Jack Marley.
Dad and coach Thomas Myers said Paddy boxed extremely well and this win means he qualifies for the European Championships taking place in Russia this October.
Thomas said: “Paddy fought three lads over three weekends to win the title.
“This means that he qualifies for the Europeans.
“He’s also training with the High Performance athletes in Abbotts- town at the moment. Dean Clancy is up there too and they would have trained together loads with Stephen Reynolds.
“The club is based in Abbeyquarter and we have about 20 boys and girls at the minute from all ages starting at 6.
“There is a lot of talent coming through which is good to see.
“We train 2 nights a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6-7:30pm. Anyone who wishes to take part can come along.
“We have 3 coaches there and everyone is welcome.
“All you need is trainers and shorts, you will start by learning the fundamentals.
“It costs 2 per session and it is about getting people into boxing and keeping them off the streets,” Thomas added.
