Driver was six times over the legal limit
A 64 year old driver who was found to be six times over the legal drink driving limit has been banned for five years.
Before Sligo District Court last Thursday was Ger Dolan of 1 The Willows, Cliffoney who admitted a charge of drunk driving at Ballincastle, Cliffoney on December 9 th 2017.
A sample showed a reading of 279mgs of alcohol per 100mls of blood.
Ms Elaine Coghill, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant had a problem with alcohol but he had dealt with it since.
On the night there was a crash but the defendant had been slowing down prior to it as he had been feeling unwell.
On admission to hospital the defendant was diagnosed with epilepsey.
He was no longer driving and the car had been crushed, added Ms Coghill.
Judge Kevin KIlrane said the reading was shocking, almost six times the legal limit. He also imposed a fine of €100.
