Stole gro­ceries from Dunnes

A man who ad­mit­ted steal­ing gro­ceries from Dunnes Stores was given the ben­e­fit of the Pro­ba­tion Act.

Ea­mon Lynch (57) of 102 Gar­avogue Vil­las pleaded guilty to steal­ing €63 worth of gro­ceries from Dunnes Stores on Septem­ber 3rd last.

Mr John An­der­son, solic­i­tor (de­fend­ing) pleaded that the de­fen­dant, a wid­ower, was on med­i­ca­tion was in a dazed state.

Mr An­der­son said that the minute the de­fen­dant was stopped in the store he of­fered to pay for the goods.

He had al­ready paid for some.

Judge Kevin Kil­rane said he al­ways made a dis­tinc­tion be­tween gra­tu­itious steal­ing, a lot of which was go­ing on at the minute, and theft in this case which was food items.
