Half of compo is paid

A man who was given a week to come up with €3,000 for a vis­i­tor to Sligo he as­saulted in the street pro­duced €1,500 last Thurs­day. Michael Sweeney (41) of 38 Old Bun­do­ran Road, Sligo was be­fore the court on foot of bench war­rant af­ter fail­ing to ap­pear last week when he was or­dered to have €3,000 in court for his vic­tim, De­clan O’Brien whom he had as­saulted in an un­pro­voked at­tack as he chat- ted to an elderly man sit­ting on a bench out­side a book­ies on Septem­ber 10 th 2016.

Mr Mark Mul­laney, solic­i­tor (de­fend­ing) said the rea­son Sweeney didn’t turn up last week was be­cause he hadn’t the money. Judge Kil­rane ad­journed the mat­ter to Novem­ber 15 th for the re­main­ing €1,500 telling the de­fen­dant he had full con­fi­dence in him gath­er­ing the sum.
