Pedestrian crossing gets the go-ahead

-

THE recent announcement that €20,000 in funding is being given for a new pedestrian crossing outside the Ursuline College has been welcomed by Blaine Gaffney, a Fine Gael Local Election Candidate in the Sligo - Strandhill District. He said he is delighted that Sligo County Council and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport have listened to the concerns he raised with them about the need for new road safety measures outside the school.

The funding will be allocated under the 2019 Safety Improvement Works on Regional and Local Roads as part of a €20 million roads grant allocation for Co. Sligo.

This funding announcement for the Ursuline College comes after Gaffney had campaigned on the issue on behalf of parents, school management and local businesses in the area since he was first contacted about the dangerous issue in February 2017.

Gaffney said it was only matter of time before a bad accident occurred in the area. The works are expected to commence later this year.
