Visit to Northwest is a success
PRESIDENT OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS IRELAND VISITS REGION
DESPITE the hugely inclement weather in the Nortwest on Wednesday, President of Chartered Accountants Ireland Feargal McCormack and Director of Member Services Becky Bristow braved the elements and were given a warm welcome by the Northwest Society in Sligo.
The itinerary included a visit to IT Sligo hosted by John Gaynor Programme chair of the Masters of Business Studies and past ACCA president. Feargal and Becky addressed the Masters of Business Studies students in the college.
A lively questions and answers session followed, where there was great enthusiasm from the students about the prospects internationally that are available to Chartered Ac- countants.
It was followed by a visit to Summerhill College. Here the senior students et with Feargal and Becky and were introduced to Chartered Accountants Ireland as a career pathway. A quick trip to the new GAA Centre of Excellence in Scarden and to Drumcliffe to see the snow covered Benbulben and Yeat’s Grave.
In the evening Feargal joined a group of members and young professionals for dinner in the Sligo Park Hotel.
The discussion was lively and informative and will be hugely helpful in creating the strategy for the region over the coming years.
Commenting on his visit to the Northwest Feargal McCor- mack said: “I’m delighted to be in Sligo with the Northwest district society of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
“Our 500 members in the region, whether long-established or just starting their careers, make a huge contribution to the local economy and regional development.
“They also offer great local training opportunities for young people to join a truly rewarding profession.
“`It was my pleasure to talk to some ambitious students in IT Sligo and Summerhill College about their options and I look forward to seeing the Northwest community of Chartered Accountants going from strength to strength in the years to come,” he added.
