The Sligo Champion

Bring Biden, Putin here

- Dear Sir, Martin Ford, St Anne’s Terrace, Sligo

The Taoiseach, Micheal Martin has now said that he will not be going to see the US President Joe Biden on St Patrick’s Day in The White House and that we should be grateful to him for doing the decent and honourable thing.

Yet, if the truth be told, he is not going as he is bowing to the pressure of public opinion but this is only for one year.

He probably will continue the junket when the pandemic emergency is over.

But how many other politicians will still get State side on the quiet?

The politicians are forgetting that Ireland is supposed to be a neutral country and that by paying homage to Uncle Sam on March 17 th this compromises our neutrality and would be seen by other countries especially Russia and China and Islamic countries.

Putting Ireland in the firing line all because selfish politicians want a cheap junket in America at taxpayers’ expense.

Would it not be better to bring the US President here on March 17 th and save us taxpayers money?

Instead of Irish money being spent in the US let the dollar be spent here.

The Irish Government should also invite Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin and the Chinese leader also to the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin and our Taoiseach could be a peace broker to them all.

But for our leader to be going to the USA every St Patrick’s Day undermines our soveignernity as a nation and is soul destroying to the Irish people and makes us feel bad that our leaders would rather be with the strangers and foreigners on our national holiday than with their own people who elected them and pay their wages.

Surely this is an insult to us, an act of treason by Irish politicians who have no shame nor respect for themselves.

You would not see the leader of France leave his country on Bastille Day or Joe Biden leave the US on the 4 th of July.

Yours faithfully,

?? ?? Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
